Film Length
Estimation Guide
It's
easy to determine how long your film is. Typically a 3"
reel of 8mm film holds 50 feet and runs approximately
3 minutes. A 5" reel holds 200 feet and about 12
minutes, and a 7" reel hold 400 feet (about 24 minutes)
of film. 16mm film runs at twice the speed of 8mm and
Super-8, so a 400 foot reel of 16mm film would only run
approximately 12 minutes, etc. Below is a chart to estimate
the running time of a particular roll of film.

Notes
on Reel to Reel Audio Lengths
Due to
the variety of speeds available on Reel to Reel tape recorders
(measured in inches per second, or ips), prices
are given per minute of run time instead of per foot (as in
film transfers). In addition, some tapes may have audio recorded
in both directions (like a standard cassette) which can double
the amount of time. use the chart below to approximate how
long a Reel to Reel tape might run.
