VINYL RECORD TRANSFERS

transfer album to cd nhAlthough most music that was once available on vinyl is now part of the great mass of downloadable digital media, there are still rare or custom recordings that will never be commercially released. These great recordings can be brought back to life by our high quality transfer to digital media including audio CDs for wide compatibility across many players. We can transfer from 33 1/3 RPM albums, 45 RPM singles, and even 78 RPM records.

AUDIO CASSETTE AND MICRO
CASSETTE TRANSFERS

audio cassette to cd conversion nhOnce the most popular of portable audio formats, cassette players have ultimately been replaced, first by CD, then by digital files. In addition to being used for music, cassettes (and especially micro cassettes) have been used for audio recordings for personal as well as business needs.

Popular in the 1980s and early 1990s prior to the digital music revolution, 4-track cassette decks were used primarily by home studio enthusiasts but also had other applications where 4 simultaneous aduio tracks needed to be recorded. Standard cassette decks will only play the first 2 tracks from tapes made by the 4-track machines and when flipped to the other side the two remaining tracks would be heard backwards. However at Goodheart Media we have a true 4-track cassette player capable of playing these tapes back in the proper way. Output can be mixed to mono, stereo, or recorded as 4 simultaneous digital tracks.

REEL TO REEL AUDIO TAPE TRANSFERS

reel to reel transfer nhPrior to the audio cassette, reel to reel audio tape was one of the first formats capable of quality home recordings in addition to being used for profesional radio and music production.

These tapes came in many sizes and had a variety of recording speeds, from consumer quality settings of 1 7/8 IPS (inches per second) and 3 3/4 ips to 7 1/2 and 15 ips speeds used in more professional recording situations.

Although magnetic tape can become more problematic with age we have successfully transferred tapes as old as 40 or 50 years. With our arsenal of digital audio tools we can reduce hiss and restore fidelity to tapes that have "faded" over time.

We use a professional level Tascam 4-track machine for all reel-toreel tape transfers and can convert mono, stereo, and even full 4-track simultaneous recordings.

MINI DISC FORMAT

The Mini Disc format was a smaller, cartdrige-like version of a compact disc that allowed 80 minutes of music to be recored and pleyed per cartridge. As with cassette, reel to reel, and vinyl, there are occasional instances where custom recordings or musical releases are no longer available in any other format. Transfers to CD or mp3 can allow you to enjoy this content once again in a more convenient fashion.

OUR PROCESS

Prior to any transfer all materials are inspected for possible damage or playback problems. Vinyl records are gently cleaned with lint-free chamois cloth prior to transfer. Cassettes have their record tabs removed to prevent accidental erasure. Regardless of the source media, all items are played back using a standard player and recorded as uncompressed audio files on a dedicated computer. The resulting files are then filtered to reduce hiss, pops and clicks and split into individual tracks as appropriate prior to burning to CD or conversion to other file formats.

AUDIO TAPE AND DISC REPAIR/
FILE RECOVERY

If you have damaged audio cassettes or sections of broken reel to reel tape in most cases we are able to fix the problem prior to transfer to digital. Our tape repair services feature full repair and restoration of damaged tapes. In some cases tapes can be re-spliced without disassembling the case. In circumstances where the tape case has physical damage we can remove the original reels with your tape and its contents on them and place them in a brand new case prior to transfer.

If you already have a CD that is scratched or damaged, in some casses we can succefully clean and duplicate the contents onto a new disc. We can also extract audio files from these discs and save them in a different format if necessary.

ADDITIONAL COPIES

cd duplicationWe provide in-house CD duplication services and can create quantities from one to thousands upon request with a variety of packaging options. For more information visit our Duplication page

PACKAGING OPTIONS

For small quantity jobs we typically put each CD in a slim jewel case that can hold one to four discs. Discs are pre-labeled with a generic title section and both of these have areas where you can write in your own titles. For a small additional fee, we can design and print custom disc labels as well.

For large quantity jobs we offer space-saving solutions such as CD wallets or full size notebook sleeves to hold you discs. In this case your original cassettes, records, or other audio media are numbered and will be transferred to corresponding numbered CD discs for easy cross-reference.

AUDIO EDITING

sound editingIn addition to transferring sound from analog formats, we can also improve sound quality by aremoving unwanted hiss or noise as well as applying equalization and other effects to make the sound more pleasing to listen to. Whether the content is voice or music we can cut, split, and recombine different sources as necessary. We can even utlize multi-track mixing for incorporating many sounds at once.

We can also extract audio tracks from virtually any video format, apply editing and filtering as needed, and recombine the track with the original video for an improved viewing experience.

ALTERNATIVE DIGITAL FILE FORMATS

Although we typically convert these analog media to audio CD, we can also save files as uncompressed WAV or AIFF files as well as other compressed audio formats such as mp3, wma, m4a (or mp4), AAC and AC3.

If you already have digital video in one file format but need it converted to a different format (i.e. audio CD to .mp3) our expansive list of conversion utilities can come to the rescue. Here is a list of the most common audio formats that we can convert from/to:

  • Audio CD (.cda)
  • MP3 (.mp3)
  • MP4 Audio (.mp4, .mpa)
  • Windows Media Audio (.wma)
  • Windows Wave (.wav)
  • AAC (.aac)
  • Dolby AC3 (.ac3)
  • Windows Wave (.wav)
  • AIFF (.aif)

If you do not see an item on the list above please contact us. We support many more file formats and codecs than are listed above.
